In Hinduism, a Brahmarshi, a tatpurusha compound of brahma is a member of the highest classof Rishis ("seers" or "sages"), especially those credited with the composition of the hymns collected inthe Rigveda.A Brahmarshi is a sage who has attained enlightenment (Kaivalya or Moksha) and became a Jivanmukta bycompletely understanding the meaning of Brahman and has attained the highest divine knowledge, infiniteknowledge(omniscience) and self knowledge called Brahmajnana. When a Brahmarshi dies heattains Paramukti and frees himself from Samsara, the cycle of birth and death.Saptarishi, meaning "seven sages" are who are extolled at many places in the Vedas and Hindu literature. TheVedic Samhitas never enumerate these rishis by name, though later Vedic texts such asthe Brahmanas and Upanisads do so. There are seven stars of the Big Dipper namedKratu,Pulaha,Pulastya,Atri,Angirasa,Vasista and Bhrigu. There is another star slightly visible within it,known as "Arundhati”, wife of Vasista.***Manvantara in Hindu units
Introduction
The present Saptarishis of Vyvasvata manvantara are Kashyapa, Atri, Vasistha,Vishvamitra, Gautama Maharishi, Jamadagni and Bharadvaja. They bring down to the earththe required knowledge and energies to strengthen the processes of transition (pralaya). They are naturally the most evolved 'light beings' in the creation and the guardians of thedivine laws.Saptarishi are the seven greatest sages of the Vedic realm. They have attained a semi-immortal status, that of an exceedingly long lifespan due to their yogic power and by thepower of their penance. The seven holy sages were assigned to be present through the fourgreat ages, to guide the human race. These seven sages worked closely with the Adi Yogi orShiva to maintain the balance on Earth. They are the seven mind-born sons of Brahma wholive for a period of time known as a manvantara (306,720,000 Earth Years). During thisperiod of time they serve as representatives of Brahma and at the end of a manvantara, theuniverse gets destroyed and Saptarishis merge in the God and the task of filling the Earth isgiven to newly appointed Saptarishi.

The Saptarishis Calendar of ancient India is based on precession of the equinoxes. It employs the tropical zodiac of the Greeks and the precessional rate of Hipparchus. The Saptarishis era has to be determined by naked eye observation of the sky. The line of reference goes through the stars Dubhe and Merak in the constellation of Ursa Major, touching both of them, and crosses the ecliptic in the sidereal Purvaphalguni Nakshatra1 of Simha Rashi at a point close to the star 59 Leonis. The angular difference between this ‗Saptarishis pointer‘ and the vernal equinox gives the tropical lunar mansion in which Saptarishis resides at a given point in time.
A manvantara (age of Manu) is a unit of time within a kalpa (day of Brahma). There are fourteen manvantaras in a kalpa, each separated by sandhyas (connecting periods). Each manvantara is ruled by a different Manu, with the current seventh one ruled by Vaivasvata Manu. Rishis and their sons are born anew in each manvantar
